Generation Calculator
Find out which generation you belong to from your birth year.
Fill in the fields above to see your result instantly.
Wondering which generation you belong to? Enter your birth year and this generation calculator names your cohort and shows its birth-year range. The boundaries follow the Pew Research Center where it has set them — Baby Boomers 1946–1964, Generation X 1965–1980, Millennials 1981–1996, and Generation Z 1997–2012 — with widely-used conventions for the older and newer generations. Generation labels are approximate cultural groupings, so birth years near a boundary can reasonably identify with either side.

Frequently asked questions
What are the generation birth-year ranges?
Commonly: Silent Generation 1928–1945, Baby Boomers 1946–1964, Generation X 1965–1980, Millennials 1981–1996, Generation Z 1997–2012, Generation Alpha 2013–2024, and Generation Beta from 2025. Pew Research defines the Boomer through Gen Z boundaries.
Why do some sources give slightly different years?
Generations are cultural, not official, so organisations draw the lines a year or two apart. This calculator uses the Pew Research boundaries where they exist and common conventions elsewhere.
I was born near a cut-off — which generation am I?
People born within a few years of a boundary (sometimes called “cuspers,” e.g. Xennials or Zillennials) often relate to both neighbouring generations. The calculator shows both so you can decide.
What comes after Generation Alpha?
Generation Beta, generally dated from 2025 onward — the children largely of Millennials and Gen Z.
